Irish Oatmeal (and other varieties - not necessarily green, but all healthy!)

A healthy breakfast to start the day
Green Oatmeal ( pictured above) instructions not included...

don't try this at home kids ;p

(Oatmeal 12 ways!)

Oatmeal is a whole grain complex carbohydrate that is high in fiber and has staying power to get you off to a great start in the morning. It’s also very quick, versatile and inexpensive. Below are 12 takes on oatmeal that will have you loving this healthy hot breakfast. A different way for every day!

For all these recipes, start with a cup of hot cooked oatmeal, then add other ingredients as desired.

Try these, and think of combos of your own!

1. Tropical – Add chopped, fresh pineapple, coconut flakes, chopped mango and ¼ cup orange juice.

2. Apple cinnamon – Add unsweetened applesauce, raisins, and sprinkle with cinnamon. You could substitute ½ cup diced apple for applesauce.

3. Maple nut – Add pecans and maple syrup, and a dash of cinnamon (optional).

4. Cranberry orange – Add dried cranberries and some o.j.

5. Banana walnut – Add sliced bananas and chopped walnuts.

6.High-Five Fiber – Add 2 T. ground flaxseeds and 2 T. raisins. (I suggest adding 2 T. ground flaxseeds to every one of these, as flaxseeds are such a healing aid to our diets!)

7. High-Five Protein – Mix together ¼ cup milk and a ½ cup whey protein to cooked oatmeal, add chopped walnuts, and chopped, fresh apple. (Or bananas…or raisins…)

8. Eye-Opener – Add ¼ cup fresh grated carrot, 1 T. chopped parsley, ¼ cup tomato juice, and a dash of celery salt, and Tabasco sauce if you wish. (YIKES!)

9. Brain-Power – Add 1-2 T. flaxseed oil; mix well. Add 1-2 T. sliced almonds.

10. Speedy Seeds – Take 1 T. each of raw pumpkin seed, raw sunflower seeds, 2 t. almonds, and cover with boiling water for at least 15 minutes before the oatmeal is done. Let sit, then drain, and rinse again in boiling water. Add to cooked oatmeal – the seeds will have plumped up and will be more chewy than crunchy.

11. Good and Sweet – Add 1 T. Tahini and 2 T. molasses. Stir well.

12. Good Child – Place excellent quality (55% or more cocoa) broken up chocolate at bottom of bowl. About 1-2 oz. or ¼ bar, cover with hot oatmeal, and watch your child’s smile as they discover the melty chocolate!

Do not Trudge Through Days...

I saw this on my fridge :)
It was placed there by a friend of the family, as he and my dd, Noelle were fooling around making sentences with our magnetic words... we kept it there when we moved... I snapped a picture of it to remember it by :)

He IS Alive..

I am ever so thankful for this and even more, that He is alive in my heart. However, There are times, when I am weighed down by baggage/or should I say - bondage that defined my life before I knew the Lord and my before my spirit was alive in Him. It is those times that I have to cry out to Him to have mercy on me and to lift my burdened heart out of the blue. I have so many regrets and I know He doesn't want us to live in the shadows of yesterday... yet we must assess our pasts when they keep hindering our here and now, despite our position as heirs of His life-giving and life-sustaining power.

At times , He will allow us to see into our pasts, and there-by offer the opportunity for us to choose to embrace the reality of what was, then surrender it to His care (and disposal). otherwise we will, as I find myself doing much too often... begin to peer into the shadows of my past and re-identifying myself with that dark rendition of what was.

I don't want to do that. It is so terribly destructive and grievous to our Lord. It hinders our walk-- skews our vision, and steals our purpose and hope... even if only for a while.

The danger, I have found is letting this happen too often. It can covertly become commonplace by our not taking dominion over these negative thoughts and letting them fester and become a pattern or a mind set. Some call it a strong hold. Whatever you call it, It is not His will ... and it can , so easily, put us in bondage to negativity, there-by, opening us up to believing other satanic lies that come at us , vying for attention. "Ugh." I need to remember.. and I encourage anyone who can relate... to remember who we are (In Him) ...

"Redeemed",

Titus 2:12-14

and "overcomers by His blood shed for us".

1 John 5:4

where "we stand" (In Him)

1 peter 5:9

"In the heavenly places with Jesus", as "co-heirs and Victors with Him"...

and who are enemy is... what he is ...( thief, a liar and defeated!)

and we need to.. like the saying goes... "act like we know!" walking within this Truth, continually ... renewing our minds in His Word and Truth... till we are walking, once again in the total freedom meant for us as His children, Holy and dearly loved...

What a freedom and a sweet place to be.

There is no other way to be free to be used of Him... no pouring out.. no infilling, no real life.. without being connected and drawing our life from the Vine...empty of selves and all of the lies that like to come and stick to us!

Lord, thank You for Your gracious mercy and deliverence from myself... and help me to keep my eyes on You and continue to walk in Your Truth...
...and to "not trudge through days, for You are Alive!
so I will soar and sing"!

I have more visitors! (big smile)

...One more thing for today... I am so excited ! I installed this new software/gidget thing ... that dispalys where my blog visitors are from... and I see that there are some of you from out of the country! I am so excited, as I had no idea this happened so often, as even this. I am on the edge of my seat here waiting & hoping for comments, from my sisters (and brothers :) in this country and now from those of you from outside the US!
I would like to be able to visit your blogs too! so please, all of you/ any of you? leave me comments with your link so I can drop in and say hey! :)
Blessings to you all!

The Necklace /a 'kind of allegorical' short story

The cheerful little girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five. Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them, a circle of glistening white pearls in a pink foil box. "Oh mommy please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please?" Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and then looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little girl's upturned face. "A dollar ninety-five. That's almost $2.00. If you really want them, I'll think of some extra chores for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy them for yourself. Your birthday's only a week away and you might get another crisp dollar bill from Grandma." As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and counted out 17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her share of chores and she went to the neighbor and asked Mrs. McJames if she could pick dandelions for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at last she had enough money to buy the necklace. Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and grown up. She wore them everywhere, Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only time she took them off was when she went swimming or had a bubble bath. Mother said if they got wet, they might turn her neck green. Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night as he finished the story, he asked Jenny, "Do you love me?" "Oh yes, daddy. You know that I love you." "Then give me your pearls."
"Oh, daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess, the white horse from my collection, the one with the pink tail. Remember, daddy? The one you gave me. She's my very favorite." "That's okay, Honey, daddy loves you. Good night." And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.
About a week later, after the story time, Jenny's daddy asked again, "Do you love me?" "Daddy, you know I love you." "Then give me your pearls."
"Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my baby doll. The brand new one I got for my birthday. She is beautiful and you can have the yellow blanket that matches her sleeper." "That's okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves you." And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss. A few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her bed with her legs crossed Indian style. As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one silent tear rolled down her cheek. "What is it, Jenny? What's the matter?" Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy. And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little quiver, she finally said, "Here, daddy; this is for you." With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's daddy reached out with one hand to take the dime store necklace, and with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine pearls and gave them to Jenny. He had them all the time; he was just waiting for her to give up the dime-store stuff so he could give her the genuine treasure. So it is, with our Heavenly Father. He is waiting for us to give up the cheap things in our lives so that he can give us beautiful treasures. God will never take away something without giving you something better in its place.

Note from me: Even if that 'something better' is just a peace in your heart from knowing that you did the right thing by giving your all for Jesus! :)

~just a thought...

There is so much good in the worst of us; and so much bad in the best of us,

~ that it ill behooves any of one us; to find fault with the rest of us.

a new blog twist...and a poem to share

Hi friends :)
I'm here with an update. My daughter Noelle wanted an opportunity to do her own blogging for a bit. So we decided that I will keep this one as is.. and I link up to her's... and she to mine.
Hopefully as I get rolling and into the swing of this all... I will have some more frequent and interesting content.
As it is now, I am just beginning to get my blogger boots wet. and they feel a bit stiff yet. :) I did however have a poem/lyric to share... I would love any feedback on any posts... so pease feel free ;D

the poem goes like this....
***********************************
Hurt People
Dear Jesus, please don't stop working in my life;
It's been a long hard row to hoe, And through such cold, dark strife.
I need You Lord~ help me let You, keep on working in my life.
Forgive me Lord, for my weak will, and reveling, amidst my pain;
Broken spirits are strewn around me
That masquerade as hidden bounty, and covert lies drive some insane.
Guard my heart and gird my loins; Fill my life & heart with joy...
Your promise I hold fast and cling to;
all your precepts I employ.
I've hurt so many on the way... Lord,
pretense keeps us blind to need;
and keeps us cloistered in confusion:
far from God, His light, His Creed.
~Hurt people, they hurt people
Born of sorrow; born afraid.
Hurt people -- they hurt people,
Born of sorrow; born of shame.
~
Parading pretense, self-protection;
Where we try to cope in vain,
When we're hurt and sorrow's leading,
tears in torrents, veil of rain.
Dear Savior Jesus,
Holy Spirit; help and keep...
...my spirit tuned,
To Your soft answer 'n steely will;
the strength and meekness you exude.
~
Create in me a heart like Yours,
In exchange for my old worn-out one;
--Hurt people, Lord, they hurt people.
But You came so that Joy we'd see:
Hurt people, they hurt people
--Lord, You came to set us free.

Two young maidens in romantic era hat

~Two of my favorite pictures of this past summer. They were from a practice photo shoot ... with dd, Noelle (once known as Dustynne :) and our neighbor , a sweet young lady named Pandora... aka, Panny Joy ... they seemed so old fashioned and feminine...
and fun ;)
~and below is....

Noelle :)

Dear Deer

I thought I was gonna try and keep the deer out of my yard this summer... (to guard my garden of course:) I had googled many natural deterrents.. but alas, never used any of them... so far they have left our garden alone... as there is sooo much folliage everywhere.. they really don't need to venture so close to the house... though even they did, I just adore them'n don't think I could scare these babies away :) These two were about 15 feet from Tom and I they other evening... in our side yard. You'll frequently find the deer walking down the sidewalk in the middle of town, any time of the day -so, not big news .. but I just love when they visit us at home...

Happy Birthday Tom!

I wanted to share a bit about how we celebrated our day, a Happy 52nd Birthday with my dear husband. It has just taken me a little longer to get to posting it today! We had a great day, despite not having a lot of extra money to spend on gifts or anything fancy. I had been perusing a gift giving book that has hundreds of inspirational ideas for unique gift giving for every season and reason :) I am a lover of gift giving and enjoy getting creative and making something special from not a whole lot. So, again, I was looking through this book for inspiration. I had, all the while wanted to do something with the wall above our bed which had been plain since we painted it shortly after we moved into our new home last Oct. It seems averything took precedence over figuring what special thing I wanted to grace that particular wall space with. I wanted it to be special as it was representing us and our jurney togther, our love. Well I had thought wall words might be the way to go, but I didn't have the time to order a phrase or a script... (nor the funds).. so I decided to do them myself. In the book (mentioned above) the woman (author) had spoken of giving a plaque to her own husband as a gift that read... Ani L' Dodi, in Hebrew meaning, I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.. (taken from Song o f Solomon). That was it! I didn' t have to think any further...it was perfect!

It summed up my heart, so I decied to give it a go, myself, with a paint pen.

I printed the phrase with a font on WORD and printed it.... copied and embellishment from another site to enhance it... Next, after we had measured out the perfect middle of the wall... my daugher Noelle carefully positioned the script on a peice of paper, under a project-o-scope, sitting it on a kitchen chair, on my bed! The project-o-scope shone the script (or any picture you place under it) on the wall, in the dark...(we covered the windows with dark plaid flannel sheets) lol! as I proceeded to trace the print ... quickly, as we were trying not to jiggle, her or me... while I leaned over to the wall, half kneeling at the head of the bed (on a mattress) as the frame with drawers underneath was way too heavy to be moved... Thanks to prayer and determination it worked out next to perfect! and the first time! I was amazed! I went over it with the paint pen (in gold) and hung a candle sconce (I think it's called) above it, tidy-ed up the room a bit-- and wala! It was my gift for my hubby... and to me as well ;)... and best of all.. He loved it :)

and~ I didn't stress him by spending money that is so tight for us this season.

I will post pics in a bit, I'm off to finish the birthday cake.. (we're celebrating fashionably late this birthday)

Thank you Tom for 16 of the best, most cherished, most secure, most growth conductive and challenging and fun! years of my life!... I'm so glad you decided to share your remaining years with me... Happy Birthday hunah!

Love,

your Suz

Daddy

Happy 52nd Birthday, Daddy!
Daddy, what can I say?! Mom always says she took the last best man on the face of this earth...and I tend to agree.
With your loyalty to God, to Mom, and to me; all the many things you've pointed out to me with the perspective and wisdom only a Daddy can have; your love for truth and light; your sense of humor; your passion about life, love, and the Lord; Daddy, there's so many things I love about you.
May the Light of the Lord's Love shine on you this year! We love you dearly!
Here are a few of the many interesting facts about my Daddy:
  • He can 'play his teeth' -- a very special talent that consists of clicking your teeth and opening your mouth a certain way at a certain time, so that it creates a tune. He can play a whole song with just his teeth!
  • He is very, very good at imitating people's mannerisms, tones of voice and faces, and has made us double over laughing over and over again at how effortless it is for him to completely change in an instant into another person!
  • He was 36 years old before he married, and 39 before he had his first child.
  • He met and fell in love with Mom on Christmas Eve, 1991. That's why they named me Noelle! (At least my middle name!)
  • He loves raw onions, and will grab a handful of cut onions just to munch on. Ugh!
  • He is very good on the piano -- even after 30+ years of hardly touching one!
  • He has a wonderful, rich singing voice (although he disagrees!).
  • He is a superb author, and is a part-time ghostwriter for a naturopath in Texas.
  • He's my Daddy, and that's the really special part!

I love you, Papa!

Daisy Theology -- He Love Me, He Loves Me Not

I suppose someone listening to this may not be familiar with the plucking of Daisy petals to determine someone’s love. A young lady might pick a Daisy flower, and stare at it as she picks off its petals one by one. As she picks a petal, she says aloud, “He loves me.” As she picks off the next petal, she says, “He loves me not.” Petal by petal she speaks the words, “He loves me, he loves me not; he loves me, he loves me not,” until the last petal is plucked off. And whichever phrase coincides with the last petal, tells her whether the one she loves...loves her.

Silly superstition, I know. But even sillier is building our view of God around Daisy Theology.

Performance Is What It's All About?

Daisy Theology is that view of God that basically says, God loves me when I perform well, and when I don’t perform well...well, how could God love somebody like me, when I act like that, or think this or that?

And so many have built their Christian lives around the awful thought pattern, “He loves me, he loves me not; He loves me, He loves me not.”

They may not SAY that God doesn't love them, but they FEEL it. And they feel it because they THINK it. And they think it because it's TAUGHT to them every time performance-based Christianity is held up as an idol.

And it's a shame. And it's not just a shame. It's a blasphemous denial of the Cross of Christ, where He said, "it is finished". It's Galatianism at its most subtle. It's the attitude that God loves me when I'm "good", and frowns with disappointment and anger when I'm not "good".

It's screamed from the pulpit every time condemnation is heaped on the sheep, because they aren't performing to perfection. It's screamed by pop Christian books that consist of nothing but 10 or 40 or 100 "rules to live by".

Books like How to Be A Good ______ [husband, wife, friend, Christian, worshiper, charity worker, pray-er, etc. ad nauseum]. Written by men and women who know that they fall short, but think it is incumbent on them to tell everyone else how to be a "Good ______."

Not precious principles from a loving God who loves us because He chose to before the foundation of the world, but rules to measure by. Rules to condemn by.

Daisy Theology is hurtful to the Christian life.

Why Daisy Theology Is Hurtful To The Christian Life

Here are 7 reasons why:

1. It quenches the peace of God.

Peace is a fruit of the Spirit. When we are filled with the Spirit and walking by the Spirit, we have peace in our hearts. This is a cycle, because the more we have peace in our hearts, the more we desire to commune with the Lord. We want to draw near to Him, and express our love to Him, and draw on His wonderful love for us.

When wrong thoughts about God creep into our thinking, it pushes out the right thoughts. And this quenches the Holy Spirit, and causes us to be robbed of our peace. Instead of resting and basking in the love of God, we fret and worry and amazingly, we may not even know we’re doing it for a while.

We may even try to perform better, trying to earn God’s favor and love and peace. And so we get off of the ground of Grace, and onto the ground of Law. And the cycle goes the other way. Until we come back to the great truth that God loves us by Grace, unconditionally, accepting us in the Beloved, Jesus Christ.

So Daisy Theology quenches the peace of God.

2. It causes believers to experience condemnation, in direct violation of Romans 8:1.

Rom. 8:1 says that there is now NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. But that doesn’t mean believers don’t sometimes FEEL condemnation. And if you FEEL condemned, then in a way you are. And so there is this odd thing going on where one is experiencing what is not even true.

And when a believer experiences condemnation, they will either have discouragement and despair for a time, or they will muster up their flesh and determine to perform well to earn God’s love. And under this lie-based scenario, the Spirit is quenched, and there’s another spiritual tailspin.

3. It steals the joy of salvation.

Joy is also a fruit of the Spirit, and is robbed from us for the same reason peace is robbed from us. The cry of David in Psalm 51:12 is the same cry that comes from the one who is in the dry desert of Daisy Theology: Lord, “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation”. But cry as we might, that joy won’t be restored until we abandon “He loves me, He loves me not,” and acknowledge the precious truth that He loves me.

4. It's contagious, spreading it's lie like a virus, everytime someone "sneezes" it.

The world, the flesh and the devil are intent on deceiving believers in Jesus Christ about God’s love for us. Every day in a thousand ways, every Sunday even in the pulpits of preachers who love Jesus, the virus of Legalism is spread.

Every time the Christian life is portrayed as some measure of performance, making it man-centered while pretending to be Christ-centered, the virus is spread. Every time God is taught to be angry and frowning on His born-again children until they get their act together, the virus is spread.

Every time the Christian life is looked at as a list of rules to live by, or else...the virus of Daisy Theology is spread.

We need to immunize ourselves from this virus, by proclaiming from the Word of God, and meditating in our hearts on the truth that God has already forgiven all of our sins, past present and future.

And there is nothing we can do to make Him love us more, and nothing we can do to make Him love us less. He loves us, because He has chosen to do so, even while we were yet unsaved.

5. It is rampant in the minds of many believers, and therefore in the church.

This may sound a little redundant, but it’s important to realize that this is not an isolated problem in the Church. We need to be on guard against Legalism and Daisy Theology all the time.

I don’t mean that we become Grace police, and jump down someone’s throat every time we hear it. But we can help the cause of Jesus and His Grace among our brethren, by speaking the truth in love, and by guarding our own hearts against the lie that God loves and favors us based on our performance.

6. It is seldom directly taught from the pulpit, but it's virus is smeared all over congregations by implication.

What do I mean by that? Well, hardly anyone preaches, “God doesn’t love you when you sin. He hates you, and you are going to Hell if you don’t stop that sinning and be perfect.”

No, it’s much more subtle than that, and unfortunately, is preached by preachers who themselves are fuzzy on God’s unconditional acceptance of us in Christ. They have often been taught Law-based theology in Seminary or Bible College.

They have been “warned” by well-meaning teachers that if you really preach Grace in all its fullness that the sheep will run wild. They’ve been taught that focusing on our performance is the best way to honor God. And so on.

And so they pass on these concepts to their flocks, never understanding that we are not only saved by Grace apart from works initially, but that we are to live by Grace apart from works AFTER we are saved.

That doesn’t mean that we don’t DO good works after we’re saved. We will. It’s God who is at work in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure, Paul tells the Philippians.

And as New Creations in Christ, who love Jesus, we WANT to live holy lives. But what about when we don’t? Does God withhold His love from us? Of course not.

7. It seems to "make sense", but is utterly unbiblical, destructive, and anti-Christ.

I know it seems to make sense. Humanly speaking, why shouldn’t God be angry at us, and frown on us when we fail? After all, didn’t He give us the Bible with all the rules for living? And didn’t He give us His Holy Spirit so we have the power to obey all those rules? I mean it only makes sense.

The problem with that is that it is simply not true. It’s not the way it is. Why? Because Jesus became sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor. 5:21).

Romans 5:10: "For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!"

See, we have been reconciled to God, forever. We have been declared righteous by Him, through the blood of Christ. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (Gal. 3:13).

And so there is no barrier to His love for us.

And for that we can love Him.

Daisy Theology is one of the most subtle and destructive corruptions of the Word of God that has ever been cooked up by the Doctrines of Demons, Inc. lie factory.

Don't buy their product! Call the Better Bible Bureau and report them!

If you are Christ's, there is nothing that can separate you from His love. Don't forget that. There is nothing you can do that will make Him love you more or love you less. He loves you, period.

The curtain has been torn apart. The wall has been torn down. It is finished. He loves you, period.

Don't even look at a daisy, until you are completely recovered.

To the discouraged

When You Feel Lonely
"'Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken, nor my covenant of peace be removed,' says the Lord, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

You see yourself as a small sparrow alone on a housetop. Your heart quakes. I hear your groaning in the late hours. Your eyes dull; your soul despairs. But I am with you.
If you are lauded as the star of a million parades, or if you are alone as a frightened bird on a rooftop, I am there.
If you sleep in the bed of kings and ride the wings of skillful wisdom in all things, or if you shiver alone with pain and muddled thoughts, I am there.
If joyful laughter floods your house, and the smells of bubbling pots of food and bulging ovens pour happily from your windows, or if you sit hunched, cross-legged and alone spooning dinner from a can, I am there.
If you leap like a deer across gymnasium floors, muscles taut and body lithe, or if you amble slowly, heavily, from sitting place to sitting place, I am there.

If you love to conquer impossible worlds, wielding the powerful Sword of the Spirit and the mighty banner of faith that I give to you, or if you cower in the fear of failure or rebuke, I am there.

If you awaken each day robust with health, or if pain envelops every pore, I am there.

If your friends and loved ones press in against you, their affection never waning, and if your years are laced in gold with precious human love, or if you feel abandoned by every soul you ever trusted, I am there.

If you fly the heights and scour the depths; if you freely move through the clouds soaring over the earth with arms outspread, or if you fall with clipped wings, confined within the prison of a carnal mind, I am there.

If you celebrate the rising of the sun and the going down of the same, and if you greet the dawn with trembling expectation, I am there.

If your eyes grow dull and your soul despairs and your voice is without a song, I am there.

I am there in sunlight and in shadows.

I am there in hunger and in fatness,

In your youth and in old age.

I am there so you may turn to me.

I stick to you, like your own skin.

The mountains of the earth will shake and crumble,

Yet My tender love for you is never shaken -

Not a shiver, not a breath,

Not the barest vibration or change.

Because I am there with you.

Church Picnic

We had a lot of fun hanging out with our church family last Sunday, spending time together for a few hours at a local park (practically on the shore of beautiful Lake Superior). This is actually our entire church, minus three!

To make sure both photographers were in one of the pictures, we had to take a couple...

Lois and Amy enjoying looking at pictures on Amy's little digital camera...

Hams with cheesy grins (and David's peeking at Micah was not staged!)

Hobbes loves picnics! Mmmm...

Discussing the recent death of a church member, and how much of a difference one person can make.

The bay...and most definitely a bay!
